Minors Division (8-10 Year Olds)
Minors is a developmental division in which players continue to advance their baseball skills, as well as gain knowledge of pitching fundamentals. This is a youth pitch division. Games and practices are held on a 46/60 field. At NMYBBSB's Garick Farms location these are A, C and D field. D field is a "pure" 46/60 field with a 46' pitching distance and 60' base paths. C field is a convertible field that can be set for 46/60 and 50/70. Also convertible, A field can be set for 46/60 baseball and softball.
Boys and girls ages 8, 9 and 10 are eligible. As number of players allow, the Minors division will be segmented into Minors AA and Minors AAA.
As an instructional division, coaches will continue to focus on teaching the fundamentals, teamwork, good sportsmanship all via positive reinforcement. Although competition is important, it is secondary to providing players with an excellent foundation and appreciation for the game.
Teams will be selected through a draft after a mandatory one-time player evaluation. Players are drafted to ensure team parity, all are assigned to a team and everyone gets an opportunity to play. During the evaluation, volunteers will assess individual competencies that will be referenced during the draft selection process.
