Prep, 13-15 Year Old Softball

It is the hope of the New Milford Youth Softball Program that players in the Prep League have developed a love for softball as a practical recreational player and that they have developed the skills necessary to play high school softball. A player in the Prep League should possess an understanding of nearly all aspects of Softball, including how to approach and prepare for practices and games, how to execute drills, a working knowledge of the key rules of the game, skills at multiple positions, an advanced understanding of the execution of offense and defense, and most importantly an enjoyment of the game, which allows our girls to compete at the best of their abilities, while displaying sportsmanship on and off the field.

By the end of the season, we want our Prep players to be able to:

  • Honor the game with respect for Rules, Opponents, Officials, Teammates, and Self (ROOTS).
  • Approach the practice and pre-game warm ups physically and mentally prepared
  • Understand coaching strategies as well as offensive and defensive signals
  • Implement these offensive and defensive signals during games
  • Know when to be aggressive or conservative when hitting, base-running, and fielding/throwing.
  • Be mentally prepared to respond to the countless variables that each pitch brings based on game situation, both offensively and defensively.
  • End the season knowing they have achieved maximum individual results in a way that contributes to their team’s overall growth.
